World Relief and the Rahr Football Club will be hosting the World Refugee Cup on June 18th, 2011, which is a celebration for World Refugee Day.  This event will be a Cultural Fair centered around soccer.  Each ethnic group will form a team to participate in the tournament and we expect to host around 8 teams from various backgrounds.

In addition to playing in the tournament, each group will bring various items that represent their culture, such as flags, music and regional cuisine.  Players, families, volunteers and visitors will be able to roam about in this melting pot of cultures and learn about the wide variety of experiences and cultures that are all a part of the Fort Worth community.

In order to provide a tournament for these players and teams, RFC is helping with administrative tasks, organizing volunteers, and providing financial assistance.  Individuals or organizations interested in participating can donate in the following ways:

Rahr International

In a partnership with World Relief, RFC has formed a new squad for our club.  World Relief is a global organization that provides humanitarian services for refugees.  Fort Worth is home to a number of refugees while 1,500 have arrived in just the last 3 years.  Arriving in a new country can bring countless challenges and obstacles as one tries to learn a new culture, language and way of life.

Our goal is to help these refugees assimilate into American culture via a common interest; football.  Our club has developed an incredible culture of "Community through Soccer" and we hope to extend that idea to these various ethnic groups as they strive to learn about Fort Worth and our way of life.  Rahr International will consist of about 10-12 International players while also including 8-10 Americans.  We will raise funds continuously as we will need approximately $500 per season to support the team.  Please see the above to contribute.
