May 17, 2010 Fort Worth Cup Results FC Rahr and Rahr United competed in the Fort Worth Cup over the weekend and enjoyed a few successes in the tournament. Both teams included a few guest players who proved to be great addition for the Summer Season. FC Rahr accomplished their main goal for the weekend, but some how did not come away with any hardware. New keeper, Ryan Byerly completed 290 minutes of shut out soccer, while the team dominated their opponents 11-0 in just 4 games. Saturday’s victories were as follows, Chelsea 6-0, Brew Crew 4-0, and FC Gunners 1-0. Unfortunately, Rahr drew 0-0 in the semifinals with Gainesville FC after playing 55 minutes without CB Nick Granado, who was shown a straight red. Despite controlling the game down a man, penalty kicks would prove to be Rahr’s achilles heal, as they were eliminated 4-2. In the end, Rahr continued to prove its prowess on the field and enjoyed playing teams from outside of the FWASA umbrella. The team also looks forward to adding Eryc Garcia and Ryan Byerly to the summer squad, as they contributed greatly throughout the weekend. Byerly was quoted “I have had a fantastic time since joining this club, all except for that Nick… more like Dick Granado.” He also added “I would rag on myself, but I was pretty flawless for the weekend, keeping a clean sheet with an assist to boot!” Garcia was a little more subtle, simply stating “I’m looking forward to the summer season. We have a great squad.” Rahr United faced a few opponents that would really challenge the team to a new level. They ended up losing to FC Gunners 2-1 on 2 PKs, tying Brew Crew 1-1 by conceding a last minute goal, and losing 4-1 to tournament champions, Kool Aid. Garret Horvath buried a fantastic set piece against the Gunners, proving his worth on the United squad. Gregorio Pacheco, Matt Riordan, Jacob Johnson and Will Wennerth also helped improve the team in various positions throughout the pitch. All of them look forward to a great summer season as United looks to pick up a few more points in the table. Rahr United Manager, Johnny Ferraro admitted “There were a few areas where we were weak in this tournament, but those are the spots that we are improving the most for our next season.” United showed that they could compete against top opponents in the Fort Worth Cup, and leave themselves with the most to prove for the upcoming season.
May 12, 2010 Champions League Final and Jersey Party
The Rahr Football Club will be hosting a Champions League Finals watching party at Buffalo Bros on Mayy 22nd. In addition, players will be able to pick up their jerseys for the upcoming Summer Season. We hope to see you there! Click for details May 3, 2010 FC Rahr Takes the Premier Title FC Rahr had put together a great season, only dropping 1 game in their first 8 matches. However, they still needed a win in order to secure the title, in a brace against the Spurs for the weekend.
On Friday night, FC Rahr took the field without their manager at the helm, while the Spurs brought a few new faces to the match. In the first 20 minutes, the Spurs went up 2-0, leaving FC Rahr with a tough uphill battle. Tony Sanchez would find Jamie Southern in the box to get one back before half and bring the tally to 2-1.
In the second half, FC Rahr pressed hard to tie the game and created several great opportunities. Eventually, Spurs would break on a counter and put the game away at 3-1, but not before earning 2 red cards, which would carry over to Sunday’s match.
On Sunday night, Rahr took the field in their green jerseys with a very simple task at hand; a win or tie would take the title home. Both teams brought full rosters with an arsenal of subs as well. Once again, the Spurs would take an early lead on a blast from 22 yards out. As time began to dwindle, Paul Baker found himself on the receiving end of a through ball where he proceeded to beat the keeper near post for a 1-1 equalizer.
Midway through the second half, Baker powered his way through the defense and sidestepped the keeper on his way to taking a 2-1 lead for Rahr. The Spurs would accept the challenge and step up their game for the remaining 25 minutes. David Peterson was brought on as a central defensive midfielder and began the task of shutting down his opponents. With only 5 minutes remaining, goalkeeper David Phillips found himself 1 on 1 with an attacker who tried to slot home an equalizer, only to be denied by the save of the season. That was enough inspiration to rally the troops, and hold on to a 2-1 victory to claim the title outright!
Pictured above: The Best Team in Fort Worth.
Congratulations to the 21 gentlemen who earned FC Rahr’s first premier title. In addition, this feat could not have been achieved without the hard work and support of the entire Rahr Football Club. This is truly a triumph to be shared by all of those involved in our club.
May 3, 2010 The Final Stages A few teams finished their seasons this weekend, while one awaits their final contest. There were some mixed reviews, but each team looks forward to the summer season.
Rahr United faces FC Chaos in their final match of the season. The winner of this game would guarantee their escape from the bottom of the table. Unfortunately, only 7 players showed up for Rahr United. Those 7 would go down in an agonizing defeat, but both teams would certainly say there was some fun involved. United was most threatening from the center circle, where Jared Turner put away the lone goal of the match.
Rahr City finished their season against a very talented Jackalopes team. City put together a great last stand and barely lost 2-1 in the match. A few equalizers were missed and left City wanting for the upcoming season.
Rahr Silver started their playoff run against FC Bollocks. Somehow, the teams would achieve a rare feat in tournament play by ending the game in a 2-2 tie. No one really knows where they go from here, but Silver will play their final match on May 14th against some one.
April 27, 2010 There's a New Sheriff in Rahr City While Rahr City continues to improve and build for the future, new management has been installed for the team. Art Fowler has completed a successful run in managing the team and has chosen to step down for the Summer Season. Next Sunday's match will be bitter sweet as we bid farewell to Art Fowler. John "Hollywood" Leake will be taking the reigns of the Rahr Football Club's most beloved team, as he hopes to continue building a solid squad. Currently, the footballers on Rahr City have shown a great attitude and determination as they look to the future. Leake promised "We will find the last few pieces for this upcoming season, and look to build on an already solid squad. While our team is very enjoyable to play with, our goal is to improve our record for the next season."
April 26, 2010 Calling All Rahr Footballers This Friday, April 30th, FC Rahr will be playing for their first ever Premier Chamionship against the Spurs. The game will be at 7 PM at the FWISD fields. In addition, Rahr Silver will be playing their first post-season game across the street at Rolling Hills. The time is still to be determined, but will played at either 7 or 8:45 PM. Come show your fellow club mates your support!
April 26, 2010 Great Weather, Leads to Great Football
This weekend’s weather contributed to an enjoyable weekend of games. The Rahr Football Club went 1-1-3, but there were lots of great moments, including a few first time events.
Rahr Silver opened the weekend by playing a team who’s tears cure cancer, Chuck Norris FC. It was a tough fought game and turned out to be a 1-1 draw. Carlos Balderas added the team’s only goal, while Chris Costa was voted player of the game.
Saturday morning practice was excellent, as the weather was perfect and the Manchester United game was inspiration for all. Also, the hard work that John Leake, Ashley Carvajal, and Ogewu Agbese put in a few weeks ago is starting to pay off. The field is starting to shape up, and will be ready for our Summer Season!
Rahr City ended up being the only team that played on Saturday morning, as both Rahr United’s and FC Rahr’s games were moved. City played with a short squad against one of the divisions better teams, the Jackalopes. Todd Hayes put away his first goal of the season, but was the lone scorer as City went on to lose the game. Hayes would repeat the feat in Sunday’s match with another solitary goal for the team. Also, Chris Herpin returned to his post as Mayor of Rahr City after a few weeks off in Sunday’s game.
Rahr United played their second consecutive game against TCU in their Sunday match. Unfortunately, it was like that moment when you pick a fight with just one guy and then he shows up with all of his buddies that weren’t there before. United played an excellent first half keeping the score at 1-1, when Jake Bailey put away a lucky free kick that megged the keeper. The second half was a completely different story United began to fatigue and the 19 year olds on the opposing squad started to realize they were actually playing soccer and not still at the previous night’s party.
FC Rahr played against Panther City, yet again. If the team’s weren’t already tired of seeing each other, they certainly are now. Chris Lockwood actually attended the game and put away the first goal for the team. Ethan De Nolf went on to score potentially the best goal of the season on a 20+ yard bomb that hit the net wear the crossbar and post meet. Walter Barazza also returned to his form, completing another brace against Panther City. Rahr retained their top spot in the table and can wrap up the season with a win this Friday.

April 13, 2010 FC Rahr Celebrates the Century Mark One sub-plot of Sunday afternoon's action was the 100th goal recorded by FC Rahr in league play. Ethan DeNolf scored on a magnificient volley, worthy of earning FC Rahr the century mark in scoring. It seems to be no coincidence that the highest scoring team in club history would acheive such an accomplishment. FC Rahr has put away 30 goals in just 7 games this season!
April 12, 2010 Lots of Football Action After a break for Easter weekend, all of the Rahr teams were back in action this weekend. The Saints started the weekend, while Rahr United put a delightful cap on it. Baylor All Saints played on Thursday night, and gave it the usual college try. Although the result was the same, they had fun getting there, and Stevan "Cruz" Cruz scored a goal. Despite the loss, some teammates went out to celebrate Mary Brannon's 21st birthday on Friday night. If you see her anytime soon, buy her a drink! Rahr Silver continued to improve both their record and on field performance as they trounced CDV 4-2. Once again, there was a surprise goal in this game, as Johnny Ferraro found the back of the net. There was a short debate about whether or not is should count as 2, but in the end it was decided to be a 1 point goal. Rahr Silver has a few more make up games as they try to improve their positioning before the playoffs. FC Rahr continued their winning ways in a well played match on Saturday again PIM SC. The first goal was scored by Jamie Southern on a rebound of the crossbar from a shot ripped by Ethan De Nolf. PIM would manage to tie the game in the 2nd half when David Peterson buried an own goal, upper 90 on a corner kick. As the minutes started to die, and things were looking bleak, FC Rahr put together a fantastic string of passes, the last of which Jared Childs finished a Tony Daniels assist. Shortly after, Ethan De Nolf would beat the crossbar and put away another Daniels assist as Rahr won 3-1. Rahr United played 2 games on Sunday, both against top ranked opponents, Mutiny and TCU. In the first match against Mutiny, Rahr United did an excellent job of controlling the ball and thus the pace of the game. Mike Ritchey scored early in the first half to put United on top 1-0. The score would remain there until the 88th minute where Mutiny would put away a 3rd successive corner to tie the game 1-1. Despite the late let down, it was a well played match by United, and a sign of things to come for the squad. Rahr City played a tough match against Random FC. City scored the first goal, but could not hold on as Random FC would come storming back for a victory. Art Fowler did his best to prevent Random from finding the net, but was overcome by their relentless attack. It was determined during the game however, that John Leake wins 50/50 balls 80% of the time, ergo changing it to 80/20 balls when in his vicinity. FC Rahr played again on Sunday evening against Panther City FC. Panther City had beaten Spurs, 3-2, in a match earlier that day, giving FC Rahr a chance to seize the top of the table. In typical Rahr form, no one scored in the first half as David Phillips and Ryan Byerly tended the nets on opposite ends. The game was very physical, as David Phillips added "This is soccer, not ninja!" at one point during the match. Jason Deifik suffered a cut to the eye in the first half, and had to exit the game, leaving Panther City with fewer options for subs. In the second half, Tony Daniels would once again, put the team on his back as he fought for a ball in the box, and scored to put Rahr up 1-0. A little later, Paul Baker would put Ethan DeNolf in on a clever little flick, which was buried on a half-volley that no keeper could touch. Rahr would go on to win 2-0, again, and take a 3 point lead in the table. Rahr United was inspired by their earlier performance to take on a light TCU squad in the late game of the evening. Although the United guys were tired, they put together a great first half, holding the score 0-0. However, Cody Yarborough was lost to a leg injury in the first half, leaving United without a vital player, and only 2 subs for the remainder of the match. Nick Hauss would continue to dominate the center of the field, winning header after header. Eventually, Cesar Escobar would find himself alone with the keeper, where he split the posts, and the keepers legs for a 5-hole goal. Once he had a taste of the back of the net, he was determined to find it again. United would go up 2-0 when Escobar buried a Jared Turner cross, and eventually 3-0 when Ritchey put Escobar through for the hat trick. TCU would do their best to come back, bringing the score to 3-2, but could not find an equaliser as time ran out. United earned their first victory of the season! April 1, 2010
Thanks to everyone that played along, and a special thanks to those who were truly concerned. I hope everyone had a bit of fun! And for the record, FC Rahr is not shutting down, but we will take all the money offered to keep us afloat! Bailey Steps Down
After careful consideration and thought on the week's events, Jake Bailey has decided to step down as the General Manager of the Rahr Football Club. As the club started to grow at an uncontrollable rate, so did their debt. In addition, the collapse of the Rahr Brewery roof further complicated finances and funding began to dry up. At this point, FC Rahr has become insolvent and faces a winding up order. As such, the club has decided to break off each team and sell them individually in an effort to pay back outstanding debts. Management has set June 1st, 2010 as the closing date for the club.
Will FC Rahr look back at their missed opportunities? Bailey added "It's been a great run for our club. No one could have imagined we would be competing for the top position in our league when we first took the field nearly 2 years ago. After winning each division, and earning our way to the top, I hope we can finish by claiming the Premier Title."
March 29, 2010 0 Four Despite many off field successes for FC Rahr in the last few weeks, Sunday proved to be a sobering day for the club. The club went 0 for 4 on the pitch, and only managed a single goal from the outings.
Jared Childs and Nick Granado (left) look down field for a way to spring the offense into action, while Brent Erwin (right) poses for his action shot. FC Rahr played 2nd place team, Spurs in a bout for the top of the table. Spurs attempted to draw a 3-0 forfeit with some clever jersey tactics to start the game, but earned the same result in the end. Rahr was held scoreless for the first time in 8 games and only the 4th time since the club's inception. Although, to Rahr's credit, they did not leave the field with 10 minutes left to play. Rahr United played against Blitzkrieg in a windy massacre. United played the first half with only 9 players, which meant a full roster of 12 players didn't play, while 9 rallied around a "Remember the Alamo" cry. A 10th did travel a great distance to make it at half time, but he was immediately sent back as a messenger to report the day's events. In the end, the 9.5 players matched their previous 4-0 loss to Blitzkrieg earlier in the season. Rahr City faced a long day with matches at 3 PM and 8:45 PM. In the first match, City was held scoreless in a 1-0 defeat. Some believe that watching the massacre of their United brethren left City scared and lacking on attack. However, in their night time clash, they did manage to tally the only goal for the club for the entire day. After 360 minutes of soccer, Jeff Michero stands out as the lone goal scorer for all of Rahr. Bailey Family in the Hot Seat After a dreadful day of matches, the Bailey family faces a tough challenge ahead. Some disgruntled fans donned green and yellow scarves in protest of the club's management. Fan favorite, Chris Lockwood briefly wore a scarf to show his true love and loyalty to the club, but was quoted, "I am not interested in taking over at this point. I am focused on playing and making the Fort Worth Cup squad. That is my first priority."
Jake Bailey looks for answers after a tough day of matches. General Manager, Jake Bailey defended himself by claiming that the club does still practice, and that better attendance might improve each team's performance. Others think this is a way to deflect his inability to win the big games. Bailey did admit "This club has the talent, we just need more cohesion, which is my responsibility." Johnny Ferraro, Assistant GM, summed it up by stating, "The attitude of this club better change very quickly, or top management will."
Josh Lorenz and others prepare for a light day of training before Sunday's matches. Experience Proves Superior Rahr Silver flexed its largest muscle, the brain, to show all the youngsters that class will always stay, even when form fades. In their Friday night match, Rahr's Over 30 squad ran away with a 5-0 victory. Eric Bryant led the team with 3 goals, while player/manager Chris Costa backed the team with a clean sheet. The club hopes to use Silver's knowledge of the game as a platform to train the young guns in the art of winning.
March 17, 2010 FC Rahr Kicks it with FC Dallas and Muse

Top Left: Johnny Ferraro and Chris Wolstenholme after the match. Top Right: Oscar Pareja, Dan Hunt, and Wolstenholme post game. Bottom: Group photo, including newcomer, Kevin Hartman, far left bench Some described it as bizarre, others said it was surreal, but when it was all over, it was awesome. In a strange turn of events, FC Rahr was contacted by Warner Brother Records to play a friendly match with the world famous band, Muse. Apparently, one of their favorite things to do is play a little football during their down time in between shows. FC Dallas would add their own staff members to play and host the match on field 5 at Pizza Hut Park. The match included too many highlights to cover but there were a few standouts. Bobby Rhine enjoyed megging a few FC Rahr players while Oscar Pareja put on a clinic for all to see. In the end, however, it was Chris Wolstenholme who put away a hat trick and earned the game ball pictured above. Thanks to Stefani Cole, Katie Solomon, Rebekah Brown, Dan Hunt, Bobby Rhine, FC Dallas and of course Muse, for a memorable event! We hope everyone enjoys the show tonight!
March 16, 2010 Ethan DeNolf Makes Pre-Season Squad FC Rahr is proud to announce that Ethan DeNolf has made the DFW Tornados pre-season squad. He will be playing on loan during the April and May months, including a few matches against his beloved FC Rahr teammates. Pending his performance, he could be on loan for the summer season. Congratulations Ethan!
March 15, 2010 Another Sunday The Rahr men's teams played another round of games this past Sunday, as their schedules would have them playing their first opponents of the season in a rematch. As fate would have, while things were a bit different the results would remain the same. FC Rahr played PIM SC, or at least 10 of their players. While Rahr was busy fiddling around, PIM would put a lazy ball in the net to go up 1-0. Once FC Rahr decided to wake up, Walter Barazza scored a bizarre goal in which a PIM defender attempted to clear the ball out of touch, but instead assisted Barazza's first goal of the season. Jamie Southern made his triumphant return by drawing a PK with his first touch of the ball. Brent Erwin would immediately spring into action as he made a glory run from coast to coast, to take the penalty. In true keeper fashion, Erwin's technique was power, as he blasted the ball into the corner. Tony Sanchez would add a third before the half on an Eric Vickers assist. In the second half, Vickers and Sanchez would continue their love affair, as Sanchez would return the favor on a Vicker's goal. Despite creating numerous chances, the score would stall their as the final ended at 4-1. Rahr United played in yet another "Battle of the Beers" against Fat Tire FC. Both teams would try their hardest for a different result, but still ended at 3-3. However, this time it was United who crashed the party to tie the game with only a few minutes left. Jake Bailey scored the first goal on a Cesar Escobar assist. Escobar would go on to score the final 2 goals for United as they doubled their point total for the season. Rahr City played former Rahr footballers, FW Wanderers again. Even though the result was the same as their first game, City deserved better. The Wanderers went up 1-0 in the first half, on an awkward near post shot. Arthur Kajfosz equalised with a long shot that left Greg Gorecki scratching his belly. Late in the second half, Josh Cohen would get fouled at midfield and collapse in pain, but there was no whistle. A Wanderer picked up the ball with no one between him and the goal and he put away the game winner. City went down 2-1, despite a great effort. Week 4 Six Pack Player's of the Game: FC Rahr - Jamie Southern, Triumphant Return Rahr United - Cesar Escobar, 3 points Rahr City - Arthur Kajfosz, goal
March 12, 2010 Code Blue on Aisle 3-3 Baylor All Saints started their schedule over again as they face Code Blues for the second time this season. The Saints were still searching for their first victory since changing to navy jerseys, and narrowly missed picking up a W. Code Blues started with only 8 players while, for unknown reasons, BAS started with 9 players, despite having a full roster. The Blues found themselves up 2-0 in the first half, as the Saints kept missing the target. In the second half, Eric Vickers fired things up and scored a nice early goal. Then he managed to bury a ball from the top of the 18 to equalise with about 10 minutes left. After chasing a guy down from 40 yards behind to prevent a goal, Vickers decided he needed a hat trick. With about 3 minutes left, he did just that to put the Saints on top 3-2. The Saints then looked to fend off the attack of the Blues and did so very well, for a period of time. With less than 30 seconds left, a Bluer found himself with the ball streaking towards the goal. Tony Sanchez couldn't catch up as the Blues tied the game 3-3. That's where the score would stand at the final whistle. Miracle Worker of the Match - Eric Vickers, Hat Trick

Each Saturday after practice, the club will enjoy watching the featured English Premier League match of the week. March 1, 2010 These 2 Go Together It was a wild weekend for the Rahr Football Club, starting with a tie Thursday night by the Saints and a win by Silver on Friday. The weekend activities ended with 3 wins, 1 draw and a loss. FC Rahr played bitter rival, Panther City in a match that delivered on all accounts. Rahr had never beaten Panther City entering the match with a history of one 4-3 loss, and ties of 1-1, 2-2, and 3-3. This time would be different, however. The match started with a very high intensity, with oppossing winger, Ryan Byerly bringing the heat. A few mid-half adjustments saw Rahr start to turn the tide, until eventually Paul Baker found the net on a clever chipped set piece from Jared Childs. That's where things would stand at half, with the game at 1-0, despite Eric Vickers' best attempts at hitting the target. Rahr came out firing in the second half, while they controlled the pace of the game. Eventually, Vickers would dribble through the offsides trap, and put away the games second goal. After Ethan DeNolf tried to break the post in half and Vickers knocked a ball out of the park, Rahr decided they would win this one with defense. Thanks to a great effort given by David Phillips, Karim Zeglam, Nick Granado, David Peterson, Brent Erwin and Jared Childs, the back line would hold strong and earn a clean sheet. Rahr would avenge United's loss with a 2-0 win. Rahr United also played a tough rival, Mutiny, a former spin off of Makeshift. Despite creating numerous opportunities, United could not find the back of the net. Some stated that while the tally of goals was 2-0, chances created fell in the favor of United some where around the 12-3 mark. Some great play out of CAM, Travis Cooper, would create multiple goal scoring opportunites but United continued to struggle with finishing. Eventually, they would fall to a 2-0 loss. Next week will involve some intense finishing drills. Rahr City brought their A game against Random FC, who seemed to do just that, run around randomly at the mercy of City's brilliant play. Jeff Michero was quoted before the game as saying "I haven't touched a ball in months, let's see if my left foot even works." After draining that warm up shot, he decided to keep the rest in the holster for the game. City was thankful that he did when he rocketed a shot off of his left foot to open the scoring. As most footballers know, these things come in 3's, so sure enough, a few minutes later he would complete the same task, this time hitting a 23 yarder with his left to put City up 2-1. City would maintain their lead and go onto a 4-2 victory Rahr Silver opened the weekend under the Friday Night Lights. Some questioned whether or not they could stay onsides long enough to score a goal, but Silver set out to prove they were up to the task. It order to wipe the slate clean, the Over 30's decided to match Che Thoat's tally of offsides but with goals this time. The final whistle had Silver way out in front, 9-0. Mission Accomplished. Week 3 Six Pack Player's of the Game: FC Rahr - Defensive Unit for a Clean Sheet Rahr United - Rahr City - Jeff Michero Rahr Silver - Defensive Unit for a Clean Sheet
February 26, 2010 Saints Earn a Point The Baylor All Saints took the field against the Sidewinders last night, in what turned out to be a heated battle. The Saints usually take the field with a humble and peaceful attitude, but once challenged, they must step up to the evils of this world. Things started very well, when Tony Golovich found the far post and the back of the net. Soon after, Kyle Wilbur would earn a PK where Jenna Beach would bury the Saints second goal. After a keeper change and some heated play in the midfield, a Sidewinder found the back of the net. Shortly before halftime, a Sidewinder female would chip a shot in over the Saints keeper to take the lead 3-2. The score would stall for nearly 35 minutes, before yet again, a Saint was fouled in the box. This time Lindsay Van would put away the PK given to Chris Lockwood. The PKs were representative of the physical play that the Sidewinders brought to the game. The Saints however, would turn the other ankle, as they continued to get hacked and fouled. Despite hitting the post a few times, and barely missing with only seconds left, the Saints would end the game in a tie. Miracle Worker of the Match goes to
February 24, 2010 Rahr Silver Debuts Article missed original print date, Feb. 20th, due to memory loss. But wait, isn't the guy who does these things only 25? Never mind that, now he's talking to himself. Rahr Silver finally got their chance to take the field after being cancelled the first 2 weeks. Unfortunately, Silver was taking on the defending champions, Patriots, in their first match ever. Things started fairly well with the Pats going up 1-0, but Keith Rail scored an equalizer midway through the first half. A weak second goal, put the Pats up 2-1 going into the half. In the second half, Rahr Silver lost its shine as they were tarnished by a Patriot attack. The final would have Silver down 6-1, but not before they could earn 9+ offsides calls. Some thought that surely, this must be a record, but they failed to remember the workings of Walter Barazza and Kyle Wilbur. The duo still holds the title for most offsides calls in a match, somewhere around the 15 mark, but no one can really count that high. Congrats to Rahr Silver for finally taking the field. We look forward to many more competitive matches this season!
February 22, 2010 Cause for Celebration After a foot of snow and cancellations last week, the Rahr Men's teams were looking to get back on the field this past Sunday. The day brought some good matches and a few good results. In the end, Rahr won 2 and lost 1. FC Rahr was geared up for an intense clash against the Spurs and for those in attendance, the match certainly delivered. Spurs jumped on top quickly, capitalizing on some lazy defending by finishing a cross in front of David Phillips. It was not long before Ethan DeNolf got back to business as usual and equalized the match. Tony Sanchez would add a second goal on a corner before the Spurs would level the match again just before half, where things started to heat up. Clayton Everett arrived at the midway point, just in time to get into the match and put Rahr back on top 3-2. Eventually, Eric Vickers would widen the gap to 4-2 and propel Rahr into a scoring frenzy. After 3 more goals by Vickers, Sanchez and DeNolf, the Spurs exited the field, down 7-2 with about 10 minutes remaining in the match. A manager could not have asked for a better 25th birthday present, as Rahr continued to improve in a dominating performance. Rahr United took the field against a former premier team, Blitzkrieg. The day started beautifully with great weather, and some exciting soccer. Despite some great efforts, United would find themselves down 4-0 at halftime. However, they showed great pride and determination in the second half by mounting some great attacks and by sharpening their defensive skills. Eventually, the match would come to a close still at 4-0, as both teams played the second half to a stalemate. Rahr City did manage to snag 3 points in the standings, but unfortunately, did not get to play an official match. Due to perfect soccer weather, the other team decided not to show. However, City did have an intersquad scrimmage where flashes of brillance were shown by both sides. In the end, it was rumored that the "dark side" won. Week 2 Six Pack Player's of the Game: FC Rahr - Eric Vickers, 2 goals, 2 assists Rahr United - Team, United second half effort Rahr City - The Weather
February 19, 2010 Saints Left Asking: Who Dat? The Baylor All Saints finally started their season last night after cancellations in the first 2 weeks. After a few months off, they weren't exactly at top form, and the absence of male players left them with very few options for the night as they took on Code Blues. The Saints started the game with 4 guys and 6 girls with Stevan "Cruz" Cruz in the goal. After delaying attack after attack, a traitor, David Peterson of FC Rahr, finished a goal for the Code Blues to take a 1-0 lead. Chris Lockwood would exit the game until half, where the score remained 1-0. After a great halftime pep talk, Kyle Wilbur stepped up to play center back, while allowing some other players to attack. Rachel Anderson found Jake Bailey at the top of the box, where he would go on to find an equalizer early in the second half. Shortly afterwards, Brad Henson left the game with a pulled hamstring leaving the Saints with only 2 1/2 men. Despite the Code Blues constant attack on goal, Stevan Cruz stood tall and defended his net. What surely should have been a 8+ goal game for the Code Blues, ended up a slim 2-1 margin of victory. While the Saints lost their first match this spring, they look to follow in the path of the Saints of New Orleans as they march on to a Division 1 title. Miracle Worker of the Match honors go to Stevan "Cruz" Cruz.
February 8, 2010 Super Start Even though it was cold and rainy, some how all 3 Rahr men's teams played on Sunday afternoon. When it was all over, Rahr ended up with a win, a loss, and a draw. FC Rahr played against PIM SC again, but this time the match counted in the season standings. It was a shaky start as Rahr finished a few goals, but allowed a few on the other side of the pitch. However, newcomer Ethan DeNolf made his presence known by finishing the first 4 goals for Rahr and eventually tallying 5 goals in the match. Paul Baker also managed a hat trick and Fred Hawkins finished 2 goals in his first official match with the squad. In the end, Rahr ran away with a 12-2 victory and will be preparing for a heated match against the league's defending champions, Dome City FC, next week. Rahr United entered Sunday's match with many new faces as they looked to continue their success in the Battle of the Beers. Fat Tire would score first on a PK, but Brad Liddle would even the match a few minutes later with a 20 yard blast. Kyle Wilbur would finish a cross from Edgar Salas just before half time to put United up 2-1. Cesar Escobar would extend the lead to 3-1, before things would deteriorate. Fat Tire scored on a counter and then found the equalizer on a corner kick with 3 minutes to play. Despite 75 minutes of solid play from United, the match would end in a 3-3 draw. Rahr City was short a few players as they faced FW Wanderers on Sunday. Despite some good play from their defense and few chances on goal, they would eventually fall in a 3-0 loss. They look forward to adding a keeper and a sweeper to their line up next week. Week 1 Six Pack Player's of the Game: FC Rahr - Ethan DeNolf, 5 goals Rahr United - Cody Yarborough, defending Rahr City - Chris Herpin, defending
January 24. 2010 Pre-season Matches Each of the men's teams were in action on Saturday, as they prepared for their season openers next week. FC Rahr had a friendly match against PIM SC, a long time premier team. Rahr managed a favorable outcome, as they continued to work on their form for the season. A few notable additions in the last weekend of preparations were Ethan DeNolf, Brent Erwin and Kyle Mittendorf. We look forward to seeing these guys on the field, along with the many other additions for this season. Rahr City and Rahr United faced off in a interclub derby that only the rain could cool down. City started the scoring to go on top 1-0. After that, it would be all United in a 5-1 final. Edgar Salas added 2 goals along with Jake Bailey, while Troy Marquez added another. One notable addition was Ashely Carvajal, who will be playing with Baylor All Saints this season. She had a great game with "the boys." The Spring 2010 season will kick off next Sunday and schedules will be posted Wednesday night. Be sure to check out our final rosters here.
December 14, 2009 It's Finally Over... Kind of. Some thought that the Fall season would never end. To some degree, those people would be correct. However, the Men's Fall 2009 season has finally come to a close. FC Rahr took on the Spurs yet again, in what would be back to back matches againt the elite team. However, this game would not turn out favorably. The Spurs, by some miracle, had more subs than Rahr and would use that to their advantage. The finally tally would have Spurs on top 6-1. FC Rahr finished the season 3-2-3 record in games played with a 3-2-4 record including a forfeit. Rahr City and Rahr United both faced short handed teams, but some how did not come out on top. There were very few bright spots in either match, but both teams just looked to finish the season. Rahr United ended their season 3-2-5 while Rahr City finished 3-1-6. December 11, 2009 Baylor All Saints Win!! The Saints beat the Oui Wobblers to clinch the top spot in their division. It's been a great season for Baylor All Saints, as they have played to a 5-2-2 record.
The Saints celebrate victory at their usual spot, Buffalo Wild Wings! Next season will be tought, as the Saints will move up to the top division in coed. The Crackers and Beans, who have won the league for numerous seasons, have already laid down a challenge to the team. Hopefully, Baylor will have another successful season, and make a run for the top spot. Congrats to them for a great first season!
November 30, 2009 Rahr Derby FC Rahr won the first ever Thanksgiving Classic in a 5-1 victory over Rahr United. There were lots of events to celebrate during the festivities, most notably the fantastic goalkeeping by Lukasz Gorecki. Yes, you read that correctly, not Greg or Artur Gorecki, but that other one Lukasz. After scoring a hat trick in his previous outing, Lukasz put together an all together different hat trick by keeping the ball out of the net. Some might argue that his distribution from the box was not up to par, but his combination of kick saves and punches more than made up for it. In other news, Tony Sanchez's muscles did come off with the white base layer shirt that he was wearing. Karim Zeglam opened the scoring for FC Rahr while everyone decided to quit when, of all people, Max Martinez scored the final goal of the match. In between there were flurries of brilliance from both squads, but nothing could outshine the hobbling of Jake Bailey. It was painful to watch his limbing up and down the field as he was thrice denied by United, who vowed that Bailey should never score against their squad. After incessant complaining by Chandler Wagner, the match finally came to a close. It was a match to be remembered and to be repeated upon any challenge with in the club.
November 23, 2009 Triple Up? The trend continued as one Rahr team would not see the field in the weekends' activities. However, all 3 Rahr teams would earn 3 points in the season's first "perfect" outing. FC Rahr took on Spurs, who have continued to dominate and win the Premier Division, season after season. Kyle Wilbur would put Rahr on top in the first half with a neatly placed shot in the box. Not to be outdone, Tony Sanchez performed a juggling act, beating all 4 Spurs defenders, finished off with a looping header over the keeper, all unassisted mind you. In the second half, Tony Golovich barried a ball passed the keeper on a Sanchez cross. The Spurs would put away a brilliant shot and then draw within one on a PK. Shortly after, Chris Lockwood received a ball from Golovich at midfield with no one in front of him except an out-of-position keeper. Lockwood proceeded to take quick peek at the net and then make the keeper look silly with well placed ball, shot from around midfield. That would put the game on ice, as Rahr went on to a 4-2 victory and to pull within 3 points of first place with 3 games remaining. Rahr United earned three points in a second forfeit from Los "Missing" Guerreros. United looks to continue their points streak against Dillos in 2 weeks. Rahr City faced United's former nemisis, Makeshift, in a heated Sunday afternoon battle. Arthur Kajfosz would add 2 goals, while Josh Cohen added another on a PK. Cohen would go on to lead the defense in protecting a slim lead and eventually a 3-2 victory. City looks to mix things up at the top of their division as they play the top 2 teams in their final games. FC Rahr - Tony "Twinkle Toes" Sanchez Rahr City - Arthur Kajfosz
November 16, 2009 Playing in the Rain Well it seemed too good to be true for all of the Rahr teams to play in 3 consecutive weekends, and indeed the rain kept FC Rahr off the field. But alas, 2 teams got to enjoy the action in the rain. Rahr United bounced back to their winning ways with a 5-3 trouncing of FC Chaos. United scored first and maintained a lead throughout until the final whistle. Both teams refused a half time break in the pouring rain, in order to get a final decision. Lukasz Gorecki contributed 3 goals while Jared Turner and Ernie Johnson added a goal a piece. United looks to be back in form after revolving door of management in the last few weeks. Rahr City took on one of the division's best, SSC Napoli. Their game was also interrupted by a stint of rain, which may have contributed to the loss delivered by Napoli. The final whistle had City trailing 5-2. Rahr United - Lukasz "I don't play defense" Gorecki Rahr City - Josh Jacobi
November 9, 2009 Double Up For the second week in a row, all of the Rahr Men's teams were in action on Sunday. Unfortunately, not all of the results sided with our favorite teams. The club was 1-0-2 on the day. Once again, Rahr United opened the day against Mutiny, a familiar foe. After trying out a few new things, United found themselves behind. Ernie Johnson netted a goal to draw the score closer and Ritchey found the net late in the came to bring the score to 3-2. However, that is where the scoring stopped and United felt the punishing blow of defeat again. Rahr City took the field against Maverick immediately following the United game. Low team attendance led to a few key absences and City was left without any substitutions. Todd Hayes worked hard in the corner to get a cross into Adrian Lopez, which he buried to put City on top 1-0. That's where City left off and Maverick picked up, netting 4 unanswered goals on the way to a 4-1 victory. FC Rahr played under the lights against PIM SC in their second meeting of the season. Both teams played with only 2 subs, but it was a heated battle on the field. The score was 0-0 at half with both teams creating great chances. Clayton Everett broke the deadlock when he dribbled past the offsides trap and scored over the keeper. Soon after, Chris Lockwood would draw a PK and David Peterson would put it away. Finally, Tony Sanchez would finish a cross, flicked on by Walter Barazza. PIM SC would net a late goal, but great defensive play out of Karim Zeglam and John Allendorf would stop the opponent there. The final score was a 3-1 win for Rahr, exacting the 3-1 loss delivered by PIM SC earlier in the season and bringing FC Rahr to 2-2-2. FC Rahr - Karim Zeglam and John Allendorf Rahr United - Rahr City - Todd Hayes
November 6, 2009 Baylor All Saints Slices Through UNTHSC The Saints returned to the field after a 5 week break, during which some players forgot they were even on the team. Once everyone arrived, the team found themselves facing UNTHSC in the second "Hospital Derby." However, this time BAS would be victorious. UNTHSC capitalized on a PK to go up 1-0, which would be the tally going into the break. At half time, some very well dressed, handsome young fellow made a few crazy adjustments... crazy like a fox. Mary Brannon would equalize the game on a PK early in the second half. Chris Lockwood put the Saints on top when he buried a ball from 22 yards out. Later, Brad Henson would put the game on ice as he slipped a perfectly placed shot past the keeper to extend the lead to 3-1. Brannon would lead the charge on the back line as she shutdown the opponents most dangerous attacker. The final whistle gave the Saints a 3-1 victory and a leap to the top of the standings. Miracle Worker of the Match - Mary "Moon" Brannon, She's a vegetarian
November 5, 2009 Rahritas Win! The Rahritas played their first match in team history at Cowtown Soccer tonight. The occasion was kicked off with a festive parade of nations followed by a fierce match on the small sided pitch. Rachael Anderson opened up the scoring for the Rahritas, and it never seemed to stop. It was hard to guess the final tally, but some estimate that it was a 10-1 victory. It was a proud day in the history of FC Rahr. Footnote: The FC Rahr Men's Cowtown team also won tonight, 4-3.
November 4, 2009 Rahr United (Indoor) Cruzes to Important Victory Rahr United (I), or iRahr United tallied a very important 3 points last night in a win over division rival, Apex. Tony Sanchez scored 2 goals, while Stevan Cruz defended the goal in the 7-3 result. iRahr is looking to repeat their victorious campaign from the summer season, where they were crowned champions of the league. The team is halfway done with the fall season and they are a perfect 4-0, outscoring their opponents 25-9. Johnny Ferraro has successfully managed the team to a 10-1-1 record over the last two seasons.
November 2, 2009 Win, Lose, or Draw, But they all Played! For the first time in 35 days, all 3 Men's teams actually played on Sunday. No forfeits, 3 real live games. When the day was done Rahr went 1-1-1. Rahr United started the day against a long time FWASA team, Dillos. As the day would unfold, the entire game was played in the first half. Dillos jumped on top 1-0 for a brief moment, when United equalized the game at 1-1. Lightning struck twice as the Dillos went on top again 2-1 only to matched again by United with a quick goal. That's where the game would stand at half, and at the final whistle, resulting in a 2-2 tie. Rahr City played in it's first battle of the beers, only to be flattened by Fat Tire. It was a rough match as City would fall to 2-1-2 after a 6-0 defeat. FC Rahr stumbled onto the uneven pitch at LMRA to face 9/11ths of a team. For those not good at math, Blitzkrieg only had 9 men to play the game, while Rahr had exactly 11, for a while. Travis Cooper put Rahr on top 1-0 and Blitzkrieg leveled the game at 1-1 before half. In about the 55th minute, Jake Bailey went down with an ankle sprain, leaving Rahr with only 10 men. Both teams would score again before Clayton Everett would put away the game winner, for a 3-2 victory. This was FC Rahr's first win of the season. FC Rahr - Clayton "Mount" Everett Rahr City - Eliseo "eLo" Lopez Rahr United - Ben "Ozzy" Osborne
October 27th, 2009 Two Weeks in a Row! For the first time all season, each of the Rahr teams played a game in consecutive weeks... almost. Click photo to view album. FC Rahr sort of played a game against Dome City FC. Dome started the scoring in the first half, and kept the lead going into the break. In about the 55th minute a Dome City player was given a second yellow and had to leave the field with the game still at 1-0. Some how, FC Rahr went on to lose 4-0. Rahr City played a tough match against Makeshift. City went up early taking a 2-0 lead, thanks to Javier Trillo. However, Makeshift would storm back to a 3-2 victory. 2-0, it's the toughest lead to defend, or so they say. Also, keep in mind, City had missed the previous week due to a forfeit. Rahr United tallied their first points of the season due to a Guerreros forfeit. United did manage a scrimmage, as most of their players actually attend games. Some might say that the scrimmage was one of the team's best showings this season. Both sides put together a fluid attack with consistant possession through the midfield. FC Rahr - Hulk, Refer to team picture Rahr City - Javier "Two Times" Trillo Rahr United - Los(t) Guerreros
October 19th, 2009 Last Minute Changes Once again, the Rahr teams took the field after a long break from action. The madness started Sunday morning and continued until the final whistle of the day. When it was all said and done, Rahr went 1-1-1. Unfortunately, Rahr City did not get to take the field as their opponent forfeited Sunday morning. UNTHSC was unaware that games would be schedule during the planned bye week and had to make a last minute decision. However, for City this means another 3 points in the standings which should land them somewhere around the top of the table! Rahr United took the field against the Refugees after a heated battle in their first match. While there is quite a bit of time between the matches, both teams have only played one other game since their last feud. The Refugees had not forgotten, and went on to pummel United 6-2. FC Rahr faced a familiar foe, Panther City FC, late Sunday afternoon. The game was rescheduled to a 5:30 meeting early Sunday morning. The scoring started with a Panther City goal which was equalized on a terrific shot from Kyle Wilbur. Panther City scored in the last 30 seconds of the first half to go up 2-1. The second half was another battle as Rahr came out with 2 goals. Tony Golovich scored the equalizer and Jamie Southern put Rahr on top about halfway through the second half. However, as time was running out Panther City notched the final goal to put the game at a 3-3 stalemate. Oddly enough, this is also the 3rd tie in a row for these teams with results of 1-1, 2-2, and 3-3 in chronological order. FC Rahr - Jamie Southern Rahr United - Rahr City - UNTHSC forfeit September 28th, 2009Rahr Football Family Returns to Soccer After taking a 4 week sabbatical to explore other interests, all 4 Rahr teams were back in action this weekend. However, as one would expect, the break didn't exactly improve anyone's performance. Baylor All Saints started the weekend with a noon game on Saturday against UNTHSC Coed. There were only 12 players available for the match, and things quickly digressed from there. The Saints missed multiple opportunities and fell to 1-1 on the season after a disheartening 3-1 loss. Click photo to view album. Rahr United played against Mutiny, a spin off of long time foe, Makeshift. Perhaps their name was inspired by their inception. United went on top 1-0 on an Ernie Johnson goal, who was easily spotted with the name Johnson across his back. Unfortunately, that tally would not hold up long as Mutiny scored 2 late goals to defeat United, 2-1. Click photo to view album. Rahr City continued their success in a match against Maverick on Sunday afternoon. In another team first, City scored early and held onto a 1-0 lead to secure the victory! Congrats to the team! FC Rahr took the field, a perfect, immaculate field only fit for Soccer Gods, against PIM SC on Sunday night. Rahr was also victim to a short bench as they went on to lose 3-1. Jamie Southern scored in the second half to give Rahr a spark, but they could not manage to find an equalizer in the match. It should also be noted that some players may have performed below average due to a loss of blood suffered by what some called a "mosquito plague of Biblical proportions." Baylor All Saints - Alex "Padre" Calzada, Patron Saint of Defense Rahr City - Rahr United - Austin "If my team only had" Hart FC Rahr - "Hack a" Nick Granado
September 4th, 2009 Lightning and Thunder Baylor All Saints coed team kicked off their inaugural season last night against the Summer Division 2 Champions, Mixed Nuts. After going down 1-0, Rachael Anderson and Kristen Bastien scored to put BAS on top 4-1. Inclement weather stopped the game in the 58th minute with Baylor on top 4-3. Congratulations to the Saints for their first victory! Go to the Saints home page to check out their blog by Ruthie Norten! Miracle Worker of the Match - Stevan "Cruz" Cruz August 30th, 2009 Season Openers The Rahr Football Club opened its Fall 2009 Season with a crazy day, including 4 goals, 4 red cards and club first. The club ended 0-1-2 for the day. Rahr City opened the season for the club in a tough match against UNTHSC. Javier Trillo registered the team's first goal in the first half. UNTHSC battled back in the second half to tie the game, which was the final result. Rahr City recorded its first point in team in history in their very first game! Rahr United took the field after City, excited to showcase their off season improvements. The game started well with Ernie Johnson assisting a goal to Lukasz Gorecki. However, by the time the break came around, United was down 2-1. The second half turned into a circus as United saw 2 red cards, and a fan ejection, while their opponent also recieved one straight red card. The game ended 3-1 in a United loss. FC Rahr played a night battle against Panther City FC, a top ranked opponent. There were some bizarre calls made in this game including 2 PKs for Panther City. After going down 2-0, FC Rahr, or rather Walter Barazza battled back to tie the game 2-2. Later, Barazza would be sent off for an alleged "blown kiss" to the referee. The game ended in a 2-2 tie. Rahr City - Greg Sadler Rahr United - Greg "Was that English?" Gorecki FC Rahr - Walter "Kiss, Kiss" Barazza
August 29th, 2009 End of Pre-Season FC Rahr ended its last pre-season practice for the fall 2009 season. Expectations are running high for all 4 Rahr teams. Each team looks to battle for the top spot in their respective divisions. Stay tuned as the season gets rolling! Rosa Rojas prepares for Baylor All Saints first season in coed.
August 9th, 2009 Fall 2009 Pre-Season Charlie Schlott scores off of a corner kick over Ogewu Agbese. Thanks to everyone that came to our first open practice for the Fall 2009 Season. We had a great turnout and look forward to a successful year! There is plenty of work to be done as we train and organize our teams in the coming weeks. Please be sure to attend next weeks open practice if you are interested in playing. Fred Hawkins had a great showing on Saturday and we hope to have him back soon. Unfortunately, we have already lost a very talented player for a few weeks. Fred Hawkins went down with a broken ankle during a full field scrimmage. We hope to see a full recovery by the end of this season. Marc Asmode, Kyle Wilbur and Jake Bailey look forward to a good season at Cowtown Soccer. We'd like to send out a special thanks to Cowtown Soccer and Marc Asmode for allowing us to use their equipment during our practice. If you are intersted in playing at Cowtown this fall, please email Kyle Wilbur at cowtown@fcrahr.com. Here are a few key dates for the Fall 2009 Pre-Season: Open Practice - August 15th, 9AM to 12PM Club Friendlies - August 22nd, 9AM Rahr Atletico vs. Rahr United August 22nd, 10:30AM FC Rahr vs. Rahr Reserve August 28th, 8:45PM FC Rahr vs. Spurs Over 30 Cancelled Season Openers - August 30th
July 28, 2009 A Look Into the Future Two more Rahr teams finished their seasons last night, and perhaps one of them was looking ahead, all the way to the year 3000. Rahr United played their arch nemises, Makeshift. It was rumored that the game would be cancelled but it turned out to be a flood match instead. United clinched the division title a few weeks back, and they played like it. As they looked forward to their future in Division 1, they forgot about finishing division 2. As a result, they lost 2-1. But alas, they are champions. Rahr Atletico looked forward to putting this season behind them, but performed well in their final match for the summer. Atletico lost 5-3 but has shown continous improvement throughout the season. We look forward to their success in next season's table. Rahr United - Johnny Ferraro Rahr Atletico -
July 21, 2009 Turn Around, Every Now and Then Two games were cancelled for the week, while FC Rahr and Reserve were in action at Gateway. Both teams were looking to put favorable spins on their seasons as the last few weeks have not been stellar. FC Rahr played Panther City who beat them 4-3 in their first match this season. PC went up 1-0 in the first half and held on to that lead for quite sometime. David Peterson buried a ball in the 90th minute to pull out a 1-1 tie. Rahr finished their first season in Premier with a respectable 3-2-3 record, tallying 11 points in the standings. Rahr Reserve has had a rough time since week 1 as they have been looking for their second victory in the season. After a few players had a heated practice on Saturday, they came out for blood Monday. This time, they downed The Village 5-0 and had them running scared back to the woods. FC Rahr - Ogewu Agbese, David Peterson Rahr Reserve - Jon Kresena
July 14, 2009 The Crown Jewel Only one team really mattered last night, and that was Rahr United. They continued to prove their dominance, as United clinched a Division 2 Championship. Overall, the club went 1-0-2 as Reserve had the night off. Here's how it went down: Rahr United gave their opponent no chance in a lopsided 6-0 victory. United has outscored their opponents 15-1 in their last 4 games, while they have only given up 4 goals all season. It is clear that they have earned the top spot in Division 2 and will make a run at Division 1 next season! FC Rahr played to a dismal 4-2 loss against Blitzkrieg. While nothing apparent went wrong, nothing ever went right either. They started the match down 2-0 and never battled back to even the match. On the upside, Ogewu Agbese returned to the field and the team is looking forward to their final match against Panther City. Rahr Atletico continued to improve in a high scoring shootout, losing 7-4 against Maverick. At one point, late in the match, Atletico tied the game at 4-4, only to see victory slip through their hands again. The team is hoping to end the season on a high note against Select next week. Rahr United - The entire team as they earned a division title. Rahr Atletico - Yanick FC Rahr - In recognition of United's accomplishment, FC Rahr is honoring them with a second Player of the Game.
July 7, 2009 Survival Week As the season heads down the home stretch, the Rahr fleet has started to wear a little thin. Each team was missing a few key players and went into a bit of survival mode as they struggled to get results in week 6. The final count was 1-1-2. Rahr Atletico started the night with only 8 players. The team would eventually field a full squad, but would play without Aaron Knight who has suffered a broken rib. Unfortunately, Atletico fell to Fat Tire 8-1. Rahr Reserve was also missing a few players and played their game with a short bench. They have had a tough time ever since their victory in week 1. This week was no different as they continued their winless streak with a 3-0 loss. Rahr United continued to make their club proud in a dominating victory over Maverick, despite having a short bench as well. Ernie Johnson earned a player of the game with a hat trick while Artur Gorecki also kept a clean sheet. United maintains their position atop the standings in Division 2. FC Rahr looked to right the ship after dismantling last week, still without keeper, Ogewu Agbese. In addition, Rahr was without leading goal scorer Golovich and staple midfielder Schuessler, leaving them with only 3 subs for the game. After a slow start and falling down 1-0, Rahr scored on a PK earned by Walter Barraza late in the second half to draw 1-1. Rahr Atletico - Steve Carroll Rahr Reserve - Rahr United - Artur Gorecki, Ernie Johnson FC Rahr - Walter Barraza June 30, 2009 Let Down Week After experiencing the let down of the US National Team against Brazil, the Rahr squads continued the trend downward as they came out 1-3 in week 5. FC Rahr started brilliantly against the Spurs, a perennial powerhouse in the Premier League. Each team created great chances in the first half which ended in a 0-0 tie. Unfortunately, FC Rahr was let down in the second half as they suffered a brutal 7-0 loss. In addition, Rahr's new keeper, Neo Begovic played superbly until injured in the 52nd minute. Once again FC Rahr is left searching for a goalie. Update: Neo Begovic has suffered a broken fibula in his ankle. He will not be able to play for the rest of the season, or even drive a car for that matter. Rahr Reserve looked to bounce back against the Mutiny this week and had a great start as well. However, Reserve had a second half let down, but didn't suffer quite as harsh a blow to their pride in a 3-0 loss. Similarly, Reserve lost a few players to various injuries, up to and including stitches to the head. Rahr Atletico had their best showing to date against Makeshift in a Division 2 show down. Atletico battled hard only to lose a heartbreaker, 2-1. In opposition to the rest of the club, Atletico actually added guys to their line up who have given them a little pep in their step. They are really coming together and are looking for their first win next week! Rahr United was once again the shining star in the Rahr Universe with a 3-1 win over Fat Tire FC. It was another great "Battle of the Beers" and we are proud to say that Rahr was once again proven superior to Fat Tire. Not only was United victorious, they have propelled themselves into first place in the division. FC Rahr - Neo Begovic Rahr United - Michael Berte Rahr Reserve - Josh Cohen Rahr Atletico -
June 23, 2009 Rivalry Week This week, each Rahr team was in a rivalry game of sorts. The results were about as good as one could hope, with 2 wins and 2 losses. Rahr United and Rahr Atletico squared off in a heated derby match which was the first ever inter-Rahr game. Atletico came out hard and played an excellent first half that ended tied at 0-0. It was unclear if either team really wanted to draw any blood, but eventually United found the net a couple of times. The final result was a United 2-0 victory. Rahr Reserve was thrown into the mix against Dome City FC, which has a few former FC Rahr players on the squad. While the Reserve roster does not list any of their former teammates, it was still a game that each team wanted to win badly. Dome City came out on top in a 6-0 route, which was also their first ever FWASA victory. Congratulations to them for the win as we hope to see them continue to develop in the league. FC Rahr was pitted against the only team they have played in each season, fall, spring and summer. Rahr led the series 2-1 entering their fourth match against the Dillos. Unfortunately, the Dillos were not able to field a full squad and FC Rahr took full advantage in an 8-1 blow out. The club has made it to the midpoint in the season, and has been very successful thus far. Each squad continues to work hard and improve each week. We are proud of our teams, and look forward to a great second half of the season! Rahr Reserve - Kevin Yosten Rahr Atletico - Mike Templeton Rahr United - Lukasz Gorecki FC Rahr - Tony Golovich
June 16, 2009 United Stands Together, the Rest Fall All of the Rahr teams were in action last night, and each team got all they could handle. Unfortunately, the club saw only one favorable outcome, but each team gained experience and knowledge to build on. FC Rahr played last season's Premier Champion, Panther City FC in a heated battle for 3 crucial points. Panther City opened the scoring and stayed on top throughout the game, but FC Rahr battled hard and nearly tied the game late before falling 4-3. This was FC Rahr's first loss in 18 games, which ended a 9 game winning streak. In addition, Rahr has been in first place in their standings for 17 consecutive weeks, dating back to "The New Team" in 3rd division. FC Rahr looks to get back on pace next week against the team that served their last defeat on October 18th, 2008, the Dillos. Rahr Reserve played its second game of the year with a few new faces on the pitch. However, the Reserve defense may have been distracted by red-hooded monsters that were reported to be seen in the Gateway Woods surrounding the complex. As Rahr fell back into some kind of unadvanced form of soccer, The Village escaped the walls of their back line and discovered a whole new world of victory at 4-1. Rahr Atletico found themselves, yet again, without a keeper, which was only trumped by the lack of a manager. Atletico fell victim to an unfortunate traffic jam that held up their manager and resulted in a forfeit. On the upside, Atletico had a great showing in their scrimmage against Select. Rahr United was the only jewel in Rahr's crown last night, as they stood strong against an old foe, Makeshift. Mike Ritchey opened the scoring and Ernie Johnson notched the game winner. Greg Gorecki kept United in the game as they came out on top 2-1. June 12, 2009 Injury Updates When you have 80+ guys competing at all levels in various venues, there is bound to be injury set backs. FC Rahr stands behind their players when they are out, and rallies around them to bring them back to the playing field. Currently, we have 3 guys going under the knife for knee injuries. Andrew Birkenheuer and Mike Tapia will be going into surgery on June 24th while Jesse Groff's surgery is scheduled for June 22nd. We expect to see these guys back on the practice field late this year or early next year. Hopefully, they will be competing again by next summer. Although they may not be able to play, we will still see their faces at Rahr games and events. Also, we have a new discussion board for anyone that would like to give some words of encouragement.
June 9, 2009 Week 2 After a great start, Rahr dove into Week 2 with high expectations, resulting in 2 wins and a good effort in a loss. Rahr Reserve had the night off as they look forward to a tough match against The Village. Rahr Atletico had the first game of the night, in which they scored the first goal in team history. Aaron Knight found himself alone in the box after a great through ball and he promptly buried it in the back of the net. However, Atletico would go on to lose 4-1. Rahr United saw their first win of the season in a 4-1 route over Select. United opened the scoring, but Select quickly evened the match at 1-1. The second half was dominated by United, who started to finish their opportunities. FC Rahr used the momentum from the season opener to propel themselves past Blitizkrieg 5-1. Blitizkrieg took an early 1-0 lead but were overtaken 2-1 before the end of the first half when Chris Lockwood and Tony Sanchez finished 2 goals just before the break. June 2, 2009 Season Openers The Rahr Football Club opened their Summer season with all four teams getting into the action. It was a great start for the club with 2 wins, 1 draw and a loss. FC Rahr defeated PIM SC 7-1 and Rahr Reserve topped Los Guerreros SC 2-1. Rahr United demonstrated great control against Maverick EGW FC, but could not find the game winner, resulting in a 1-1 tie. In a tough fought match, Rahr Atletico lost 4-0 against Fat Tire FC, a long time opponent of our premier squad. Ian Landrum opened the scoring for FC Rahr, while Martin Cleworth notched both goals for Rahr Reserve and Mike Anderson scored a scortcher for United. November 24th, 2008 Division Champs!FC Rahr, formerly "The New Team," finished its inaugural season with a commanding 6-0 win. Their final victory, coupled with an FC Bimbo tie, clinched the division. Sure, it may not be the World Cup, but it's a great feat for team that played it's very first game just 11 weeks ago! | |
