G4 Mutiny: Thrown Overboard
The Rahr Reserve continued its run of results this week with a 3 to 0 loss to the Mutiny. In general, scores can be deceiving and, in this case, the score tells only half of the story.

The Reserve squad fielded a decent starting eleven, but had a very shallow bench due to several absences. Five players missed the game due to injuries, sickness or other reasons: Jacobi (back spasms), Sadler (hurt metatarsus), Ryan O'Neil (swine flu), Kevin Yosten (family emergency), and Chandler Wagner (hurt wrist). At the start of the game, the Reserve had only two players on the bench.

The Reserve squad had a very solid first-half with good team defensive play by the backs and midfielders. The defense denied the Mutiny any real scoring chances. But the Reserve offense created a few chances of their own, but just couldn't find that critical last touch. The teams went into half-time leveled at 0-0.

The second-half started out well, but quickly things got chaotic. First, JP Amick came up lame after a challenge and would eventually have to come off the pitch due to a tweaked hammy. Soon there after, leading scorer Martin Cleworth collided head to head with the shortest guy on the opposition's team. Martin took the worst of it, and had to come off the pitch due to severe bleeding. He would leave the complex to receive several stitches to his forehead. These two injuries would be a devastating blow to a tiring Reserve side. The team would have to play without subs for the remaining 25 minutes.

In the end it proved to much. The Mutiny opened scoring at about the 70th minute when its right mid took a well played ball past two Reserve players and sent an accurate shot past the keeper into the back of the net. Things continued their downward spiral from there. The Mutiny would get two more easy goals as the Reserve side got stretch this way and that.

Man of the Match goes to Josh Cohen for his defensive effort, who played even while battling a stomach virus and a mild case of Saigon gonorrhea.

G3: Dom City FC Buries Rahr Reserve 6 Under
Reeling from a 4 to 1 loss against The Village, the Rahr Reserve hoped to turn things around when the faced Dom City FC on this past Monday night. Instead, the Reserves bought thirteen nonrefundable tickets to Domination City. (Unfortunately for the Reserves, what goes on in Domination City finds its way onto the internets only days later.) When the smoke cleared and the bodies counted, the Reserves lost its second straight game, this time 6 to nada.

Several absences made things easier for Dom City. Defenders JP Amick and Chandler Wagner were absent due to sickness and church camp, respectively. Starting keeper Hiram Trillo was out due to injury. Kevin Yosten filled in admirably between the sticks, but really never stood a chance against a team that attacked at will.

Dom City opened scoring early in the first-half with a pair of goals in the first twenty minutes. The Reserves battled back to restore a little balance and composure to the match for the last twenty-five minutes of the first half, but were unable to convert the few created chances. The second-half was a complete and utter embarrassment as fatigue began to set in. Dom City would find the net four more times.

The Reserves created one great opportunity late in the game, when Martin Cleworth played the ball over Dom City's defense for Clayton Everett to run onto. Clayton pushed the ball into the box then, cat-like, managed to ever so slightly kick the ball with his right shin. The ball trickled safely into the relieved keeper's hands. And it was at that point that the Reserves' handful of fans actually began to cheer for the other team.

G2 The Village: A Bad Movie Without a Twist
Rahr Reserve took to the field against a decent Village side after sitting last week out with a bye. As the game began, so did the back-line horror show. (An unconfirmed rumor has it that M. Night Shamlamdingdong was seen lurking in the woods just before kick-off.) The Village plagued the back four with well timed through balls or poor linesmanning, depending on your point of view. By the half-time whistle the Reserve found itself down 3 to nada.

Josh Cohen gave a firery half-time pep-talk intended to rouse the mighty turtles* from there shells. But unbeknownst to Cohen, turtles do not have ears, anatomically speaking, so his efforts largely went unheard. In the second half the Reserve play improved, as several players began to find one another's feet. Martin Cleworth (3 goals on the season) got on the score board when he picked up a loose ball in or near the box and burried the ball just past the keeper's outstretched hands. But the moment was lost shortly thereafter when a break down in the defense left the keeper exposed. The Village killed the game off 4 to 1.

Tyler Zawacki gets the nod for player of the game for his tireless work, especially in the second half. He proved the most reliable player, consistently winning 50/50 balls and providing service to the box players.

*The turtle is the unofficial  mascot of the Reserve team. Turtles are well known for their ability to hide in their shells when trouble approaches and to fight martial-art-style in sewers.

Game One: Los Guerreros SC, Spanish for ... the Guerreros
Rahr Reserve played its first game this Monday, knocking off Los Guerreros SC 2 to 1. It was the first time many of the players had ever met one another, let alone played together. And the unfamiliarity was apparent from the start. The first half was plagued by miss-communication and mistrust, as players were hesitant to make early passes to and early runs for each other. Los Guerreros SC capitalized on the early confusion and nabbed a goal on a break-away chance. Rahr Reserve went into the break down one goal.

In the second half the Reserve found some rhythm and one another's feet. Martin Cleworth leveled the match at one, hammering a low driven ball past the opposing keeper. Martin would again find the net with only minutes left, when Clayton Everett found him unmarked inside the box. Martin slotted the ball just past the keeper for the game winner.
