April 26th FC Rahr vs. Dillos 5 4 Ian Landrum Ian Landrum is one of the original members of our team, dating back to "The New Team" days. He is one of our current captains and tremendous leader on our team. He has spent most of his season playing a vital role in our league leading defense. We could probably attribute a lot of our wins to that defense, but we knew that Ian would unleash his cannon of a shot someday and be a hero. It could not have come at a more fitting time than yesterday's game winner, and the last goal of the season. Just as FC Rahr had clawed its way back into the match, Ian put the finishing touch on an undefeated season. Landrum hit a 40 yard bomb, a la Cristiano Ronaldo, that rippled the net as the team erupted in celebration. Nevermind the fact that he played a solid 90 minutes at center back and still had the legs to finish a shot in the 81st minute. Thanks for all of your hard work and a terrific season, Ian!
April 5th Makeshift vs. FC Rahr 0 3 Chris Lockwood Chris is our player of the game, yet again. It's hard to argue when he nets 2 of our 3 goals and at one point he had tallied 4 consecutive goals for the team. Lockwood is exactly the kind of leader that every team needs. He brings talent, knowledge, experience and a great attitude to the team. Most of all, he has all the intangibles that great leaders possess and he is willing to whatever it takes to help the team. Chris, please suck next week so we don't have to give you this award again.
March 29th FC Dubtown vs. FC Rahr 1 2 Chris Lockwood and Kyle Wilbur There may have been some hanging chads is this week's voting, but nonetheless we have a tie between Chris Lockwood and Kyle Wilbur. Lockwood netted both of the goals for the win, while Wilbur had an assist and worked hard in a few different positions. Also, Kyle contributed our weekly write up, so that's worth at least a hat trick. We are very appreciative to have both of these guys on our team. They continue to work hard, week in and week out. Things are much easier when a team has 2 strikers they know they can count on. Thanks guys!
March 22nd The Village vs. FC Rahr 1 2 Matt Baltensperger
No, not the oldest, but the most experienced player on the team, Matt Baltensperger, is this week's player of the game. The veteran showed his knowledge of the game, when he outsmarted the opponent to score off of a long throw in from the slightly junior Andrew Birkenheuer. Matt tallied the first goal of the game, and the only goal from the field of play for FC Rahr. As the game wore on, Matt battled hard to keep The Village out of the goal. It's that kind of intense play, from a storied leader that will rally the troops and push your team to victory over a tenacious opponent. We are lucky to have such a talented pool of leaders that can step up from week to week. Great job and congrats to Matt!
March 8th Fat Tire FC vs. FC Rahr 0 1 Ogewu Agbese
As predicted, Ogewu Agbese has made it back to the player of the game page. He has only given up 5 goals all season and only 2 goals from the field of play. That is a .833 Goals Against Average and only 1 goal from the field in every 3 games. This week he kept a clean sheet which gave FC Rahr another victory. The O.G. faced a few daunting attacks but he quelled them all quickly, but not quietly. If you have ever seen him play, you know the O plays with a lot of enthusiasm and energy. That was exactly the spark we needed to overcome our foe, Fat Tire FC. Thanks for all that you do Ogewu!
March 1st FC Rahr vs. Makeshift 2 1 Nate Beck
Nate has been a quiet leader on our team the entire season and has been the utility player every team needs. He has played an entire game at sweeper, filled every position in the midfield and pitched in anywhere that we have needed help. Yesterday was no exception as he excelled wherever he was asked to play. Fortunately for FC Rahr, he also scored both of our goals. His first goal was mostly due to a strong individual effort as he carried the ball down the field and planted it in the back of the net at the last second, beating both the keeper and a defender. His second goal was off of a cross that he settled and placed in the back of the net. Nate now leads the team in the combined total of assists and goals. We are lucky to have such a talented team player that is willing to do whatever it takes to help out the club. Thanks for all the hard work Nate!
